Today I have some awesome budget-friendly tips for those of you out there that are looking to grow your hair in a hurry. We’re looking for the most hair growth for the least amount of money, as fast as possible. This is especially hard to pull off if you use a lot of heat on your hair or dye it. So, how to do it? Let’s find out:
Tip 1: Shower comb/ wide-toothed comb
Your hair is in it’s most fragile state when wet. This is why it is important to not use a regular brush on it to avoid breakage/straight up ripping it out in frustration. Try a shower/wet comb or a wide-toothed comb if you must brush your hair when wet, otherwise avoid brushing it until dry.
Tip 2: Coconut oil
Coconut oil is one of the only oils that can actually penetrate the hair cuticle and thus has the best deep conditioning power. It’s also a lot cheaper than any leave-in conditioner you might find at the salon. Massage a small amount into the ends of your hair when wet as a leave-in conditioner.
Tip 3: Regular trims
Regular trims are a must when you are trying to grow out your hair especially if you dye it. If your hair is damaged, it will split up the shaft of the hair and cause your hair to break instead of grow. Nip out to the salon for a trim or even trim off some dead ends yourself.
Tip 4: Lots of water
In order to grow hair long, it must be well-hydrated. In order to keep it full of life, make sure you keep your water bottle full of water and keep sipping all day long. This will work wonders for your skin and ward off headaches too!
Tip 5: Eat a high protein diet
A strand of hair is composed mostly of protein. So to keep your hair growing quickly, you need to nourish your body with a protein-rich diet so hair follicles can keep putting those protein building blocks to work. Try protein-rich foods such as lean meats (chicken, turkey, lean beef, fish), chickpeas, nuts (almonds, peanuts, walnuts), cottage cheese or Greek yogurt.
Tip 6: Don’t wash your hair everyday
Washing your hair everyday strips it of it’s natural oils. These natural oils keep your hair hydrated and moisturized to protect it from breakage. Try to pushing washing your hair to everyday other day or longer if possible. Use dry shampoo in between washes to keep your hair looking fresh and non-greasy.
Tip 7: Leave-In Conditioner and Deep Conditioning
Keeping your hair moisturized and hydrated is super important to keep it growing quickly. Try a leave-in conditioner on wet hair after your shower and a deep conditioner in the shower a couple times a week to achieve super-silky locks. Deep conditioners can run up quite bill if you decide to invest in a good one however Winner’s carries the Macadamia brand so you can pick it up for a discount.
Tip 8: Dye Only Roots
A lot of people dye their whole head every time the refresh their colour. Try to only dye your roots and leave the ends dye-free. This will decrease the damage you are doing to your hair and keep it healthy and growing quickly. My favourite tried and true blonde dye is L’Oreal Paris Starlet.
Tip 9: Avoid using heat when possible
This is a pretty tricky tip to stay true to. I always try to only straighten my bangs and the pieces around my face if I really can’t do without using heat. If I’m looking for some style, I use spiral curlers overnight or pop them in my hair for a couple hours before I go out.
