It seems to me that everyone at one time or another has had to deal with skin break outs/acne/zits. Here are some of the tips I have found that help and have worked for me:
1. Not drinking milk
All milk contains naturally-occurring hormones because it is meant to nourish growing baby cows. Imbalanced/ out of whack hormones is huge reason for acne flare ups so decreasing how much milk you drink can really help your skin. I notice the difference in my skin quality within days of not drinking milk.
People who are acne prone also tend to be zinc-deficient. So taking over-the-counter zinc tablets can really help improve your skin as well as your immune system (I haven’t been sick all winter!)
Clogged pores are a major contributor to break outs, so using an exfloliating face wash with salicylic acid can help slough off dead skin cells that clog your pores and also make your skin super soft!
4. Not using antibiotic ointment
Zits are technically a bacterial infection so you might think that using antibiotic ointment will help clear your skin. However since it is such an oil-based ointment, it can majorly clog pores. It may be great for healing cuts but avoid using it on acne problem areas such as your face.
Acne is often caused by hormones being imbalanced. Taking prescribed birth control pills as a woman can really help improve your skin. Ask your doctor to see if this option could be right for you.
Many face moisturizers tend to be oil-based which can clog pores however gel moisturizers are not. Also, since they are not oil-based, they help your makeup stay put and not slide off your face throughout the day!
7. Fake it til you make it – use foundation
Throughout the process of clearing up your skin, you can always get some coverage with a non-comedogenic (non-pore clogging) foundation and/or concealer. To achieve a more matte look, use a powder brush and set your foundation with powder.
8. Don’t Use Mac Foundation
Most Mac foundation are not oil-free and can majorly break out skin. I have literally just stopped using Mac Studio Sculpt foundation and my skin has majorly improved just a few days later. The internet has blown up calling this phenomenon “Macne”.
